Sonny MolloySonny Molloy Event

Sonny Molloy was a Galway original, a strong and warm presence on High Street  Where he ran his traditional drapery shop for many years. He entertained many thousands of people with his outstanding tenor voice. He was still singing until a few weeks before his 89th birthday and passed away on December 14th 2014. His old shop is now a pub called Sonny Molloys, where they will host an event in memory of him with an extract from a television documentary Sonny Days and a special performance by the Augustinian Choir. Speakers will include his niece Ailish Smyth and Tom Kenny of Kenny’s Books.

neachtainsRemembering Nora Crubs

'Nora Crubs' was a famous late-night crubeen house in 50's and 60's Galway remembered in Gerard Hanberry's poem The Kasbah in Quay Street and his Sunday Miscellany essay of the same name.

Tigh Neachtains hosts an evening of poetry, song and memories featuring Gerard Hanberry along with contributions from many other poets, musicians and storytellers, recalling Galway's 'first nightclub'.

 Far From Literature We are RaisedFar From Literature We Were Reared

A night of song, spoken word and literary shenanigans with Conor Montague, Seamus Ruttledge and friends. Guests include: Gerry Hanberry, Stephen Watt, Sarah Clancy, Aindrias de Staic, Aideen Henry, and the ever-indignant John Donnellan.

An art trail will be visible on the streets of the Latin Quarter during Cúirt. Artists will present their work in windows and on walls of the businesses in the area. The art will be made as a response to a piece of literature which will be chosen by the artist and will be hung alongside the piece of writing at the venue.

Galway Review Launch

The third printed anthology of The Galway Review: a collection of poetry, prose, non-fiction and reviews edited by Máire Holmes will be launched by Artistic Director of An Taibhdhearc: Anne McCabe.
