Cúirt International Festival of Literature, in partnership with Tramp Press and Kenny’s Bookshop, present a special online event celebrating the launch of A Ghost in the Throat, the latest book from multi-award winning writer, Doireann Ní Ghríofa.

Doireann Ní Ghríofa makes her prose debut with A Ghost in the Throat, weaving candid personal memoir with a literary mystery story, as she tries to track down the circumstances behind a murderous attack in the late 1700s that inspired ‘the greatest poem written in either Ireland or Britain during the eighteenth century.’ A Ghost in the Throat is a fluid hybrid of essay and autofiction, exploring the ways in which a life can be changed in response to the discovery of another’s art – in this case, Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill’s Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire.

‘A love story, a poem, a reflection, an enchantment, a shimmering, beautiful and moving book about the nurturing sustenance of reading and rereading, how words can make time disappear.’ Joseph O’ Connor

Doireann Ní Ghríofa is a bilingual writer whose books explore birth, death, desire, and domesticity. Her latest poetry collection was chosen as a Book of the Year in both The Irish Times and The Irish Independent. Doireann’s awards include a Lannan Literary Fellowship (USA, 2018), a Seamus Heaney Fellowship (Queen’s University, 2018), the Ostana Prize (Italy, 2018), and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature (2016), among others.
