Arts in Action: On Translation

As part of the Arts in Action series, we welcome Giovanna Granato, the University Translator in Residence, for a discussion around translation. Giovanna has translated some of the most important English-speaking modern authors into Italian, including Edna O’Brien, Virginia Woolf and Flannery O’Connor, and is currently working on a translation of Colm Tóibín’s Nora Webster.

Giovanna started to work as a freelance literary translator in 1995 and since then she has translated some of the most important English speaking modern authors into Italian, including Edna O’Brien, Colm Tóibín, Flannery O’Connor, Norman Mailer, Virginia Woolf, Graham Greene, Katherine Anne Porter, Martin Amis, Tim Parks, Alan Hollinghurst, David Foster Wallace, Dave Eggers, Jennifer Egan, Richard Powers among many others. During her time in Galway she will be translating Colm Tóibín’s Nora Webster, and she teaches Literary Translation at the Holden School in Turin.
