Celia de Fréine is a poet, playwright and prose writer, and this event will explore her page-to-stage process. Her play Cóirín na dTonn is currently recommended as a text on the Leaving Certificate Syllabus. Set in the West of Ireland at the end of the twentieth century, it explores Cóirín’s experience as she tries to carve out a new life for herself after the death of her mother.

Celia de Fréine is a poet, playwright and prose writer. Her plays have won many Oireachtas awards and have been produced professionally. At present she is working with An Taibhdhearc in developing her play Cóirín na dTonn which is recommended as an optional text on the Leaving Certificate Syllabus. Set in the West of Ireland as the twentieth century draws to a close, the play sets out to explore the life of Cóirín, a young woman, who faces many challenges as she tries to carve out a new life for herself after the death of her mother.
