We’re delighted to welcome Galway-based authors Mary Costello and Edel Coffey to discuss their latest novels.

Mary Costello’s A Beautiful Loan is a heart-wrenching novel set in 1980s Dublin, where introverted, naïve Anna falls for an older man. An intimate portrait of a woman claiming the life she yearns for.

Edel Coffey’s In Glass Houses is a propulsive thriller about power and privilege in wealthy New York City. With a shocking twist, this novel will keep you guessing until the very end.

Mary has published three novels and two short story collections. Her first collection, The China Factory, was published in 2012. Her novel, Academy Street, won the Irish Novel of the Year Award and the overall Irish Book of the Year in 2014, and was shortlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award, the Costa First Novel Prize, and the EU Prize for Literature among others.

Her second novel, The River Capture, was shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards, the Kerry Group Novel of the Year and the Dalkey Novel Award. Barcelona, her second collection of stories, was published in 2024.

Her new novel, A Beautiful Loan, has just been published.
