A one-hour fiction-writing taster seminar with writer Alan McMonagle. Alan will take you through a range of techniques for getting started with your writing practice; you will look at openings, voice, character, dialogue, point-of-view, setting and plot, along with ideas about structuring your work, and some takeaway writing prompts. Suitable for beginner writers and those looking for a refresher.

Alan has written for radio, stage, and published two collections of short stories (Psychotic Episodes and Liar Liar). Ithaca, his first novel, was published by Picador in 2017, and longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Award for first novels, the Dublin Literary Award, and shortlisted for an Irish Book Award. His second novel, Laura Cassidy’s Walk Of Fame, also with Picador, was published in 2020. He lives in Galway.
